Coloured powder painting in Reggio Emilia

Treatments with colored powder paints in Luzzara

The thermosetting powder coating process at the Euroforesi plant in Luzzara, in the province of Reggio Emilia, is carried out with very fine-grained coloured powder paints. They are electrostatically sprayed and deposited on the surface to be treated, heated and permanently fixed in special kilns.

Component pre-treatment

Paints are melted and polymerised in special kilns to obtain superior bonding and a fusion 'crosslinking' effect.

Processing in the powder painting department starts with picking of the pieces in stock and preparation for the assembly line. The components to be painted are then subjected to the pre-treatment phase, entering a cleaning tunnel where, through alkaline washing, phosphating and subsequent rinsing with demineralised water, they are cleaned and dried for the next phase - painting.

Two powder coating systems

The application of coloured powder paints takes place through specific dispensers which spray the thermosetting material until it covers the components on the assembly line, which continues its journey towards the kilns.

The painted components enter kilns with a temperature varying between 180° and 200°, where the fusion and polymerisation phase of the coloured powder paints takes place. This permanently adheres them to the surfaces of the treated pieces, thus obtaining a durable thickly-painted effect.

The finished component, once cooled, is checked piece by piece before being delivered.

Euroforesi has two different powder coating systems:
  • A fully automated system for large-volume and large-format painting in series, where the processing is completely automated and takes place in phases.
  • The other method for small quantities of components, metal fences or special colours which could not be processed in an automated manner.
